Thinkk Studio
Interior / Product Designer, Bangkok
THINKK STUDIO, a design studio from Bangkok, was founded by Decha Archjananun and Ploypan Theerachai; their comprehension of design concepts has harmonized research and experiments and always applied with an element of fun and creativity. they have the capacity for versatility that ranges from installations in hotels, department stores, and exhibitions to furniture and product designs while always keeping in mind the multidimensional impact the pieces would impart on consumers by taking into consideration the market, the public, relevant communities, and the environment. They have set their sights on TIMELESS DESIGN and, at the same time, want our legacy to be interesting and appealing.
THINKK Studio began as a duo act. Their background as INTERIOR DESIGNER meant we were responsible for selecting items appropriate for a particular niche, and a lot of times, what they were looking for simply did not exist. This pursuit of perfection has cultivated a fascination with the manufacturing industries. Eventually, they came to realize Thailand had been a long-time production hub for many internationally recognized brands, although there were not nearly as many furniture and products from Thai designers that were given the same level of recognition at the time. It had become an encouragement for us to explore product design; they also attended lectures and participated in workshops and contests before receiving the Furniture Design Award from the Singapore Furniture Industries Council (SFIC) in 2010, after which they went separate ways in search of wisdom.
Decha Archjananun studied Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Design for Luxury & Craftsmanship at École cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL) of Switzerland from 2010 – 2011. The course has opened many doors for him to train under-celebrated designers such as Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, Ronan Bouroullec, Pierre Charpin, Alexander Taylor, Xavier Perrenoud, Patrick Reymond, and Augustin Scott de Martinville. During his time abroad, he collaborated with luxury brands such as Bernardaud, Christofle, Baccarat, Audemars Piguet, and Nespresso. His graduation piece, “Weight Vases,” has attracted the interest and investment from Specimen Editions, a French contemporary furniture collection, and it is still in production and distribution globally to this day.
Ploypan Theerachai studied for a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Design – Spatial Design at Stockholm’s Konstfack in Sweden from 2010 to 2012. Her coursework, “Const Lamp”, was handpicked for exhibition at the Rosanna Orlandi Gallery in 2012, and ultimately received the title of Best in Milan in that same year from DesignApplause, a US magazine devoted to architecture and design. Her graduation piece, “Hide & Seek,” was named Best Graduates of 2012 by FRAME Magazine, Netherlands.
From strength to strength, today THINKK Studio has grown into a team of ten young designers with different talents and forte. While they often collaborate with other designers in addition to serving our clients in Thailand and overseas, THINKK Studio also provides consultations for local entrepreneurs and communities via government programs such as The SUPPORT Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand (SACICT), Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), and Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP). As well also spearheaded the forming of a Thai new blood designer group, the Design PLANT, in 2013.
