moonler at Design Antwerp - When Lanna Craft Meets the Heart of European Design
Some journeys begin not with a plan, but with a belief.
For seventeen years, moonler has worked quietly - hand by hand, grain by grain - in the shadow of mountains in Doi Saket, Chiang Mai. We have never rushed. We have never chased attention. We have simply believed that furniture made with genuine philosophy will, in time, find the people it was meant for.
That time is now.
moonler is proud to announce our debut at Design Antwerp, Belgium - one of Europe's most significant gatherings of contemporary furniture and design. It is our first time on this stage. And we arrive not to impress, but to share.
What Is Design Antwerp 2026 - And Why It Matters
Design Antwerp is Belgium's premier international design fair, bringing together established furniture houses and emerging design voices from across the world. Antwerp itself carries a long legacy as a city shaped by craft, trade, and cultural exchange - an appropriate setting for a brand whose identity is built on exactly those values.
For international architects, interior designers, and hospitality specifiers, Design Antwerp represents a curated window into what the global design community is producing at its highest level. It is where decisions are made - where a piece of furniture earns its place in a project not through a catalogue page, but through presence, touch, and conversation.
This is why we chose it. Not for scale. For sincerity.
Who Is moonler - A Thai Furniture Brand Built on Eastern Philosophy
moonler was founded in 2008 by engineer Phuwanat Damrongporn and artist Sarawut Sakthamcharoen in Doi Saket, Chiang Mai, Thailand. The brand emerged from a shared conviction: that the disappearing woodcraft traditions of the Lanna region deserved not only preservation, but reinterpretation for the contemporary world.
Every piece Moonler produces is crafted from Chamchuri wood - known internationally as Acacia, Rain Tree, or Monkey Pod - commercially grown in Thailand and worked by local craftspeople whose skills carry generations of accumulated wisdom.
Our design philosophy is rooted in three principles:
Eastern Soul: furniture as a vehicle for stillness, groundedness, and harmony with nature
Materiality & Imperfection: the belief that the evidence of a human hand is not a flaw, but a value - a distinction between craft and manufacture
Sustainability: transparency in material sourcing, zero-waste intention, and a commitment to the wellbeing of every craftsman in our workshop
moonler is not simply a furniture brand. We are, at our core, a wellness object maker - one whose products are designed to change the feeling of a space, not merely its appearance.
What moonler Is Bringing to Design Antwerp 2026
At Design Antwerp, visitors will encounter a carefully selected presentation of moonler's work - pieces chosen not for spectacle, but for depth.
Expect to see:
Signature Collections
Two collections anchor moonler's presentation at Design Antwerp 2026 - one a beloved expression of the brand's core philosophy, the other a world premiere.
PEBBLE Collection - The Art of Intentional Imperfection
The PEBBLE Collection is perhaps the most honest statement moonler has ever made. A three-legged stool and table born not from a blueprint, but from the instinct of a master craftsman given a single instruction: let the wood decide. Its surface is deliberately left unpolished - not as a shortcut, but as a declaration. Every ridge, every variation in grain, every trace of the hand that shaped it is preserved with intention. PEBBLE asks the question that defines moonler's entire design philosophy: what if imperfection is not something to correct, but something to celebrate?
For European audiences accustomed to machine-perfect finishes, PEBBLE offers something quietly radical - the physical proof that a human being made this, and that this fact alone gives the object its value.
TRUNK Collection - World Debut at Design Antwerp
Design Antwerp marks the global introduction of TRUNK, moonler's newest collection and perhaps its most layered work to date.
TRUNK emerges from a quiet dialogue between nature's raw essence and the rhythm of human memory. The collection's defining character is its surface - achieved through meticulous hand-carving techniques preserved by local artisans in the Chiang Mai community. These deliberate, rhythmic carvings are not decoration. They are a physical record of time, material honesty, and the enduring strength of the tree itself. Each mark is a word in a language that only the human hand can write.
What makes TRUNK exceptional, beyond its craft, is its material conversation. The collection integrates Celadon - the iconic, subtly crackled green-glazed ceramic produced by master craftspeople in Chiang Mai - alongside Chamchuri wood. The result is a meeting of two ancient local traditions: the warmth of textured timber and the cool serenity of glazed earth. Wood and ceramic. Forest and fire. Two materials, one philosophy.
TRUNK stands not merely as furniture, but as an invitation - to pause, to touch, and to reconnect with the profound simplicity of nature and the living heritage of northern Thailand.
Chamchuri Wood - Material as Story
Few international audiences have encountered Chamchuri wood in person. Its dark streaking interlocked with warm light brown, its high moisture content demanding particular expertise to work with, and its inherent variation from tree to tree - these are qualities that photographs cannot fully convey. Design Antwerp offers visitors the rare opportunity to touch, to feel, and to understand why this material forms the foundation of everything moonler makes.
The Lanna Craft Conversation
Our team will be present throughout the event to speak with architects, designers, and hospitality buyers about what it means to specify furniture that carries a genuine origin story - from the craftsman's workshop in the mountains of northern Thailand to the interiors of hotels, villas, and residences around the world.
Why European Architects and Designers Are Looking East
The global premium interior market is undergoing a significant shift. Japandi - the fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics - has reached saturation. Buyers and specifiers are actively searching for the next authentic voice in craft-led design.
Southeast Asian craft, and specifically the Lanna tradition of northern Thailand, represents a white space that no major international brand has yet claimed. Moonler's presence at Design Antwerp is, in part, an act of definition: to show European design professionals that Lanna Craft is a coherent, sophisticated, and deeply considered design philosophy - one that offers something Japandi never could: the specific warmth, philosophy, and material story of Chamchuri wood and its makers.
For hospitality specifiers in particular, Moonler offers something beyond aesthetics. Every piece carries a narrative - a story that guests pause at, reach out to touch, and carry with them. In an era where wellness design drives guest experience strategy, this is not decoration. It is intention.
